Sports psychology
Sporting Bodymind is a leading team of humanistic
sports psychologists. As such, we focus on current performance,
rather than delve into the past. When working with a sports client,
we are part of the coaching team and report directly to the head
coach or manager. Our objective is to support athletes (and everyone
working with or for them) in their efforts to realise their potential.
The Company was founded in 1979 by John Syer and Christopher Connolly.
Their experience of participation and coaching at international
level, allied to their professional skills as counselling psychologists,
brought a new approach to sports training. Emphasising the inter-relatedness
of mind and body, they redefined sport psychology as ‘mental
training’ and pioneered the field of team development.
During the early 1980s they worked with numerous professional and
national sports teams in Britain, continental Europe and the USA
and wrote two books on the subject.
These books produced an unexpected result: business managers invited
them to translate this type of sports training into the corporate
environment.
Since then, our growing team has worked with a wide range of national
and multi-national organisations, in both public and private sectors,
whilst continuing to develop our work within the sports arena. We
recognise that both arenas are focused on performance and find that
our experience in one always enhances our work in the other.
